There is no denying Hung Lo’s success in the ACW as a cruiser weight. He entered the division with all of the classic martial artist moves of the movies, along with the common “attack screams.” But Hung Lo extends this style to what many people say, “stereo-typical” extremes. He uses the “attack screams” for each move and even talks with the same tone. This has angered many viewers, and many call him a mockery of Asian heritage. Whether he does this as a mockery of Asian heritage, a mind-game tactic against opponents, or it could even be his natural style, it has been very effective in the cruiser weight division since his debut in 2000.
Hung Lo has been considered one of the top three Cruiserweights in ACW history, along side Raptoid and Hoochie. Ever since Hung Lo debuted in the ACW he has been feuding with Raptoid and Hoochie. Some of the greatest Cruiserweight matches have been between these three.
In these many battles with Raptoid and Hoochie Hung Lo would win the Cruiserweight title many times and losing them on several occasions to the two men. In total Hung Lo would go on to win the Cruiserweight title 4 times. In one of Hung Lo’s quests for the Cruiserweight title he would find himself facing the champion Essa Rios at the biggest show of the year Collision Course 3.
Rios would put many road blocks in Hung Lo’s way like matches against his girlfriend Lita and matches against his buddies in his stable Inconsequential. Then at Collision Course 3 itself Lita came out and said that to the dismay of Hung Lo he would have to go through her to get to Essa Rios. When Hung Lo defeated Lita he was awaiting Rios to come out then Eddie Gurrerro came out and said that Hung Lo had to beat him to face Rios making Hung Lo very upset to the point where he would curse out the Mexican’s trying to screw him. Luckily for Hung Lo he beat Eddie and Rios finally came out to defend the title against the tired Hung Lo, and Hung Lo was able to do the impossible. He beat Essa for the Cruiserweight title.
Hung Lo’s biggest Cruiserweight title defense and biggest match in his career that point in time would come at the Owen Hart Memorial PPV 2002 against multi-time ACW World champion Josh McMullin.
Hung Lo had the match of his life against McMullin on this night and successfully defended his title against one of the greatest champions in ACW history. Hung Lo has also beaten Josh McMullin on a couple other occasions, being one of just a small list of people McMullin has never beaten. With the victories over McMullin and the great matches with Raptoid, Essa Rois and Hoochie Hung Lo announced that he was a big time player in the ACW.
Now with a lot of attention coming Hung Lo’s way he was gaining more and more chances for title opportunities. Hung Lo made good on these opportunities by winning the North American and Intercellular (now retired) titles. Hung Lo winning more and more titles only inflated his already immense ego. Hung Lo would go around and preach that he owned everything. He said he owned wrestlers, the ring, the ropes and eventually the ACW only angering the entire roster.
Since Hung Lo thought he was the greatest thing in the world also the fact that he had no allies, so he brought in his own personal servant boy Hija. With Hija by his side now Hung Lo thought it was time to go after some new gold the ACW Tag Team titles. Then at Misfortune 2004 Hung Lo and Hija upset the Tag Team champions Hank Clampet and David Graves.
Things were going good for Hung Lo as Tag Team Champion, but as things were good for Hung Lo they weren’t so good for Hija. Hung Lo would treat Hija like crap. He would make Hija do everything for him and give him no respect. Then when they lost the Tag Team titles at Assailant Series 2004 to Showtime Hung Lo blamed Hija for the loss pushing Hija too far, so Hija beat down Hung Lo.
Then Hija started to compete under his real name Daniel Saskae. He would tell us it was Hung Lo that made him play a sterio typical Asian guy and he didn’t like it at all. Now with Saskae on his own Hung Lo challenged him to a match at the Owen Hart Memorial PPV 2004 and Saskae accepted. Hung Lo would go on to win that match when Saskae went for his Ax Kick and hurt his knee, and Hung Lo had no mercy and went to work on the knee gaining the submission victory.
After the whole ordeal with Saskae Hung Lo was backstage practicing from his martial arts book Law of the Fist (which he says everyone should read it and learn it) and Mae Young came by and told Hung Lo she thought he was sexy. Then Hung Lo chopped Mae Young and pushed her down. Nick Richards was walking by and saw this go down and he chased Hung Lo away. All of this lead to a match between Hung Lo and Nick Richards at Collision Course 6. Hung Lo ended up pulling off the big upset over Cherry Pie Guy.
With his big win at Collision Course 6 Hung Lo used the momentum to get himself a shot at the World title. So at Malice 2004 Hung Lo went into his biggest match ever against the World champion James Lyght. In a match with many highs and lows Hung Lo pulled off the biggest upset of his career by winning the World title. Now with Hung Lo as champion he was more annoying than ever before making the entire roster angry.
Now with the entire roster wanting a piece of Hung Lo Jumping Jack Johnson and Shawn London made a Roster Challenge match (a roster challenge is a gauntlet match where you have to beat everyone on the roster to win) for Rampage 2004. Hung Lo was very mad at this ruling, but claimed he would win. Hung Lo would beat seven wrestlers until he was beaten in an upset by Dinkle McAcker. Since Rampage everyone on the roster did every thing they could to keep Hung Lo from getting a rematch for the title.
After winning the Cruiserweight, North American, World titles Hung Lo proved to the world that he was not just a Cruiserweight but a threat to win any title in the ACW.
